What to do when you're "burnt out"

To be completely honest, this year has been very difficult. And not necessarily difficult in terms of academics and college apps and whatnot, but spiritually. The past few weeks has been so difficult because I've been burdened with so much laziness and complacency. And everyday, I have had the urge in my heart to spend time with God, but I either ignore it or briefly read/pray/worship. (It's funny how I always put off devotionals but every time I do it, it's the best thing ever and I feel so refreshed and comforted and loved, and I never want to leave His presence but the same feeling of dread comes back the next day?)

Today, I worshipped for a while and read, and as I read, I listened to "Fountains" by Jon Thurlow. One of the lyrics is, "Just keep coming back to Me", and I realized that what God wants from me is so simple. God wants me to love Him and rely on Him and simply come back to Him. And it's as easy as that. There is no shame, no judgment, no punishment. God is just so glad to have me back! Even though these past few weeks have been super difficult and my heart could not have been further from His, He still loves me and calls me His beloved!

So what do you do when you're burnt out? Keep fighting. Keep reading, even if you feel like you're not understanding. If you're not understanding, pray for clarity. If you don't feel like praying, then just talk to God. Start there. Close your eyes, and just start talking to God like you would talk to a friend. After all, He is your friend! If you still cannot bring yourself to do any of these, just begin to think about all that God has done for you! He loved you, He sent His only Son for you, He is always with you, He cares about you, He gives you joy, He takes care of you, He watches over you and keeps you safe...and all of these things, He does, even if you don't acknowledge it. God loves us even if we don't love Him back because it's just His nature. He is love. Literally love. He can't HELP but to love us fiercely and passionately. What a great God we serve! And if this revelation doesn't bring you to your knees in awe, fear, and admiration of God...I don't even know. I literally just got wrecked typing this. Wow. God is good.
